    Problem with the V-Drive

I`m hoping someone can help! I have a 96 super sport, out on the boat today and everything is fine, after accelerating and then slowing back down we notice a clunking noise that seems to be coming from the v-drive. A clunk every revolution but only in forward, reverse is ok. I checked the oil and while it was towards the low end certainly not what I would call low. I did add some but it didn`t change the sound. Pulled the boat out and nothing on the prop, no dings. I looked in the book when I got home and see that there is a u-joint, which kind of sounds like the noise. A bearing would make a high pitch noise I think, maybe a gear problem too?

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks for your input!!

    v-drive problem

Only noise? you feel vibration when driving? I heard V-drive can last long time and trouble free, How many hour your engine had? The model of your V-drive is V26D?

      RE: v-drive problem

Yes, only noise, no vibration, we have 608 hrs on it and it is the Walter V26D. As I mentioned, one minute it was fine the next making the clunking noise?? Sound can really travel in a drive train, I THINK it is coming from the V-drive. I will take it to the Nautique dealer tomorrow and see what they think. I believe this problem is beyond my capabilities.

      Thanks

        v-drive problem

I belive 99% the noise is come from the V-drive, if you can patient the noise, you can continue to use Without trouble, if the boat still uder guarentee, ask the dealer to fixed it, I had fixed the same issue my self,it's really not easy for a non mechanic person since you must remove the tranny and the V-drive first.
