Hooked up battery backwards, fan blower works, engine does not crank

Would like to blame my son, but I hooked up battery backwards and assume blew the 60 amp breaker. It will not budge at all while the other two breakers seem to have a little play but appear to be set. Any ideas?

Which engine is in the boat? Did you check the 12.5 amp ignition beaker?

It is the Ford 5.8L engine

I'm not familiar with the breaker normal operation as have never checked them before. But the 12.5 and 15amp breakers have a little play in them when i push them. the 50amp or actually says 60amp on this engine is frozen solid (no movement at all). So something seems wrong with the 60amp, but was hoping someone may know if this is different then a normally operating 60 amp breaker.

Thanks for responding and great work on this forum, I browsed through a lot of post and seems like could be something as simple as this breaker or blowing out the entire ignition panel.

Same issue Slugo. I have power to everything except boat won't turn over.

- cleaned terminals / grounds
-start button clicks (once ) when pushing in, again (click) at release.
-clicks happen at one of the 3 relays atop the engine.
-replaced 2 of the 3 relays
-12 volts at starter
-no voltage to starter (yellow wire)
-also replaced starter and attached soilenoid

- my 60 amp is frozen. No push. Nothing.

Could this be the issue? Blew the 60 amp breaker? Is it supposed to be able to be pushed if it's not popped?

Take a volt meter and check and see if you have voltage on both sides of the relay. They have several warnings about swapping battery cables. I take it your boat is a push button start. I am sure someone else will have more information as to what burnt out.

if the breaker has no play in it, its typically seized. you should be able to rock the bottom up and down on a good breaker. i had a 50 amp go out on a boat i sold last year. nautique parts has them

Thanks guys! Replacement 60 amp is out for delivery today. I'll replace and see.

Fgroce, how exactly do I check both sides of the relay. These are the 3 relays beside the 60 amp. I do have voltage coming on the female side (unplugged male relays and checked voltage in females) but I'm not sure what you mean to check both sides.

Hi I meant to say both sides of the Circuit Breaker, But if you are checking your relays, Post a close up picture of the bottom of the relay and I will see if I can help you out.

I replaced the 60 amp breaker and still nothing but clicking when I press the start button.
I will still check both sides to see if voltage is there.

Also, I'll snap a picture of the bottom of the relay for you. Really appreciate it as I'm stumped after replacing / checking almost everything that seemingly solves the issue for most.

Do you have power to accessories? I would check your starter solenoid and the main fuse. Starter solenoid is a cheap and easy fix. They are known for going out and causing a clicking noise when hitting start.

I bought my boat with the same issue and im pretty sure Edward Scissor hands replaced the starter with the battery connected and shorted the system out. My boat did not run and was a mess when I got it so I can't say everything will be the same for you. I wound up replacing the computer/breaker under the dash and was able to jump the boat out at the relay on the back of the motor but could not get it to run off the keypad(had the similar click sympton you described). On the back of the motor there is a solenoid underneath where the 2 15 amp and 1 60 amp breakers are if you follow the wires to the you right side they go into a harness, I split open the harness and found a diode, when I tested the diode it was bad. I replaced it for 35 cents from radio shack and the boat worked. This was back in 2011 so it has been a while but using a meter I found power going to to the solenoid, figured out how everything worked and luckily after slicing the harness open found that diode(which only allows electricity to flow one way). I'm assuming your hearing the fuel pump come on when the power is on?

Rossrips yes power everywhere except ignition.

2000superdare- that's the first I e heard or read about a diode. I have the GM made PCM 330 so I have 3 - 12.5 amp relays and 1 60. I've now replaced all of the 12.5 amp relays and the 60 amp breaker.

- no voltage on either side of the new 60 amp breaker

-*in the start position*
Voltage: .4 volts to yellow / red
.1 to red


-this one, Voltage only to purple and white wire at 11.9 V


No voltage to any other wires at the 3 relays.

If your getting clicks when you hit the start button which is indicating some sort of power... I'd try to swap the starter solenoid(relay) which is right behind the breakers. It may be a long shot but worth a try. I didn't hook my battery up backwards but I had the clicking when I was hitting the start button and after a handful of clicks it'd finally catch and turn over. Once I replaced the relay it starts everytime with one push of the start button. Keep us posted.
