Keeping the Shipping Cover that comes on a new boat

It seems like I saw a thread a while back that was about keeping the shipping cover that comes on your new boat when its shipped from Nautique. I can't seem to find that thread, but I'm curious how people used this cover? I'm curious because I may like to use it to tow my boat 3 hours home from the dealer when it arrives in April. The weather can be unpredictable in April so I would like to be able to tow my boat home tower down in case the weather is bad. Its interstate highway the entire way so if it rains the boat will get filthy inside without a cover.

that was the general idea. It allows you to tow with the cover on (but most of the new covers do too) but the shipping cover goes down over more of the hull.

The shipping cover only works with the tower down. You have to make sure your dealer removes it properly the first time. Usually they just just the ropes and maybe the corners to remove it. It has a draw rope around it that must stay in tack. Also the platform must be removed along with board racks and bimini. You will need packing tape around the nss plates and rear of boat the prevent rubbing. The brown stuff works best. For the best results have your dealer take a few pics of your boat when they receive it from the factory and before they remove the shipping cover.
I have traveled like this in snow, ice, and salt. Came home and pressure washed entire boat, cover, and trailer. Removed the next day after spending the night in a heated garage and the boat was showroom condition with just some minor detailing. Not sure I would do it all over again unless the conditions were going to be realy bad. It is a lot of prep work.
I use the shipping cover now in my garage with tower down just to keep the dust out of the boat and prevent any scratches while passing by. It is just laying over the boat and trailer like a blanket. Hope this helps

I use mine for winter storage outside. As long as it is removed properly, it can certainly be reused. I do this so that I don't have to use my main cover over the winter, reducing wear and tear on that cover. The side coverage is an added benefit.

I pick up my boats from the factory, so I am the one who removes the Transhield, and I am very careful not to tear it or cut any cords. I have two of them now from previous years in case I tear one of them reinstalling it for winter storage.

Interesting note: The Transhield covers still show the code name for the G23 (Gray Project) in place of the true model name. That's the way the G23 was referred to before it was released by Nautique, so that no information could be derived by outsiders from the true name of the boat.
