Hi,
I'm a picky owner and want things to work correctly and recently bought a 2001 SAN. Loving the new boat compared to my 1999 Air Nautique.
Background:
I just installed a replacement tach from Speedhut (and Hydrophase GPS speed controller) on my 2001 SAN.
I've used the boat about 15 times since purchase, but never in the dark, so I never noticed before the tach installation if the gauges were backlit or not. I also remember reading here the arrow buttons on the tach are supposed to dim the gauge buttons. With the Teleflex tach now removed, I wonder to what dim setting it defaults.
Now, my gauge lights come on with ignition, but are not triggered by the navigation lights switch. I pored over the 2001 and 2002 operator manuals and they don't offer enough detail to say how they should operate.
I also note when the ignition is switched on the red lights on the right hand control panel buttons energize for about 5 seconds. The red lights stay lit if the navigation lights are on.
Question:
Can anyone tell me definitely if the gauge lights should come on with the ignition vs. navigation lights for this year? I'm very confident in my wiring skills (have wired several complete cars / hot rods, countless stereos, relays, my motorhome, etc.), still, just trying to figure out if I should troubleshoot or not.
My next step would be to look at how the Faria Gateway box outputs are wired. I imagine I could move the dash lights output from the ignition to the nav lights output.
Thank you,
Doug
