Awesome... where does the chip plug in at? I couldn't tell from the video. Can you post a pic of the ecm with the chip.
as requested.... you just remove the cover off the rear of the computer and plug it in. i did have to push one of the capacitors down a little on the mustang computer

Alright! I knew it would work...but I had my fingers crossed.
Man... you could easily sell a batch of these to PCM and Nautique parts... as cheap as this is, you could even offer a warranty and probably make a couple bucks to pay for all that moates equipment.

So PCM obviously just sourced the ford ECMs and programmed them with their own tune. Makes me wonder if this can be done without the use of the chip? Probably just a matter of having the hardware or software to do it without the chip... so the moates that you guys are talking about is what is being used to read the factory PCM tune and then write that tune to the chip? The chip is a moates product?
I just picked up on what you guys are putting down. This is great information. I hope to have my boat a long time and I would also like to have a back up available to keep me on the water. Nice work.
For anyone that wants a backup ecm, first thing would do is buy either a C1A1 or D1L1 ecm off eBay, etc. Then download a copy of the file I posted. You are in pretty good shape after that. The moates stuff is pretty common and it wouldn't be that hard to find someone to program a chip for you as long as you have a copy of the file I posted. The moates chips seem to be readily available as well.

I don't think PCM would sell these, but I do think they would be very happy if they knew someone had a solution for sale. It can't be much fun for them to explain to people that they have no solution for replacing the computer on their 15-20 year old PCM engines.
Like you say, why not just contract with one of the parts houses to offer them, you mention Nautique Parts, there are a few others that I think would feel ok offering them. Rather than a warranty I'm thinking they would have a disclaimer that it's an aftermarket fix and they take no responsibility for the results.

I purchased my C1A1 eec on eBay. Now on moates and I see the F3 chip that I need but there is a couple options (as I'm understanding it) for burning your tune you posted here onto the F3 chip. Moates shows JAYBIRD hardware which I understand will connect to a laptop on one end and the F3 chip on the other and allow me to write your file to the F3 chip. The other piece of hardware to do this I understand is the moates BURN2+F2A+F2E which will allow me to write your file to the F3 chip and also can be used to read the stock PCM tune from my current GT40 ecm. Wondering what moates hardware you used to burn your file to the F3 chip? I'd like to purchase the chip and the burner hardware so I can copy your tune file onto a chip and plug it into my ecm I have coming and have a backup ecm as well.
I used the burn2 option to read my marine ecm and then burn to the f3 chip. If you only wanted to burn the file I posted to a chip you could just buy the jayhawk. With that said, I copied it off a 97, I'm pretty sure there was a newer version of the ecm tune released in 98-99. Although I have had zero issues with the 97. But what I was getting at is, it would be nice to make a copy of the ecm on a newer version as well.
Ok great yes that was my only concern with wanting to burn my 2002 GT40 ecm was because it would have been the latest version of the PCM GT40 tune since it was the last year they made the GT40. Just wasn't sure if that latest tune was done prior to 97 but sounds like it may have been post 97. Thanks again for figuring out this ecm fix!
Vanhanbr I came across your thread on eectuning.org. My 2002 GT40 eec part number ends in LE where yours ends in LB. From what a gathered those last two part number letters indicate the hardware/software of the unit. So I'm thinking due to the part number difference that my 02 eec may require a different Ford "donor" eec. One with the LE hardware/software. Question being would the C1A1 still work for my 2002 GT40 or be safe to try anyway?
