    Hope for GT40 EFI ECU

I was going to wait till spring to announce this, but I have some possible good news for those of you worried about lack of replacement ECUs. I was working with some guys on another forum and was able to read the "tune" off the PCM marine ECU using Moates hardware. We found a couple vehicles that used the same hardware as the marine ECU and I was able to write the "tune" to an add-on chip that mounts to a port on these ECUs. It is winter in WI and I haven't been able to test it yet, but if it works everyone should be able to replace their broken ECU with another fairly common ECU and an aftermarket chip. The one issue is that the chip sticks out a little and the black ECU cover would have to be trimmed to get the ECU back in place. Again, this has not been tested yet...

Mike this is info for you GT-40 owners that have an BAD ECU. Because they aren't able to be purchased anymore. This would be a fix to get the boat running again. Not a modification or anything, but great info for sure.

I wasn't planning on it, but I just sold my boat and didn't get a chance to do any testing this spring. I do have the "image" file saved if anyone wants to test it out on their own, I can explain how to do it. I also have a ecm and a "burnt" F3 chip if someone wants to test it (we can work something out.) The C1A1 ecm out of the 2.3 liter Ford Mustangs use the same hardware as the marine ecms. I read the "image" file off my old boat and burnt it onto a F3 chip from Moates. That F3 chip when plugged into an ecm with the same hardware should work. The big question is whether or not I got a good "read" off my marine ecm, although I'm pretty sure I did. All anyone has to do is buy a C1A1 off ebay for $25-50 and buy a F3 chip programmed with the marine code. If we can confirm that this setup works, I would be happy to burn the chips for people in the future.

I would like to. Not that I need it mine works fine but just to have a back up. The image file is the PCM GT40 tune for the ecm? I recall with PCM that there was several versions of the GT40 tune, kept fine "tuning" it over the years. I imagine my GT40 being the last year of production has the most recent tune. What year was your GT40 that you copied from? Can the image file you have be emailed? Are you looking for any compensation for the image file?

PM sent. Same as guy above. I'm healthy, but want a backup plan for when it goes.

I read the ecm from a 97 sport, here is the file:

This would be a fairly big deal if it ends up working.

^^^ that's what I was thinking. Thanks to all you guys who are on this. I copied the file from vanhanbr "just in case". Now, that being said, I have absolutely NO CLUE what to do with it but I'm guessing if the poop hits the fan some day I have at least this part covered. Fingers crossed that I never have to use it.

Odds are definitely in your favor Mike that you will never need it but it sure is great to have guys like Vanhanbr out there figuring fixes for difficult issues!!

Van you should post your findings on CCFan also, some GT40 guys over there who have been trying to crack those codes, Lewy in Australia being one of them.

I bought a F1ZF12A650AB off ebay dirt cheap and Van is sending me a programmed chip. I'm going to try it out, but it won't be right away. I have the boat apart doing some other upgrades.
