    Decal removing/ Ordering Registration Decals

I know a lot of you are obsessed with removing all the warning decals on your boat. I like the cleaner look as well. With that being said what is the best way to safely remove decals? I also need to to add my new registration numbers, is there a good site to order some good color combos? I really like what the previous owner had on the boat(pic below), even though my state technically doesn't also the numbers to be the same color as the hull... Any suggestions what would look good against the red?

For me it was finger nails, Goo Gone, occasionally some heat from a hair dryer and a ton of patience. I did a carbon fiber wrap over the capacity labels near the throttle. I'm pretty sure I don't have a single sticker left on the boat or tower except for the black chromax on the sides and transom. I've gotten away with no reg numbers for the last 6+ years, but I keep them in the glove box for when my number comes up with the popo. I bought my boat from the same place you did. I like how they order their boats.

Use a heat gun to warm up the decals you want to remove. Use some goo gone and acetone to clean up the leftover glue.

There is no better site than Domednumbers.com

Plastic razorblades work great for scraping. Buy a bunch they dull quickly, but do not scratch gelcoat.

Also use heat as said before.

You can pick up a decal removal wheel that will fit on any cordless drill at most automotive stores. It basically a large gum eraser in the shape of a grinding wheel. I have used this on cars, trucks, and boats to remove small stickers to full boat graphics and it has always worked well. Just need to keep it moving and dont allow it to heat up.

I just removed the 10 year old registration numbers from the hull on my boat, a hairdryer to heat 'em up and then peel them off with fingers. Used a plastic scraper/spreader to scrape off most of the residual adhesive, then wiped with mineral spirits to get remaining adhesive off, then wash the area with soap and water suitable for fiberglass. Wiped dry and applied the new vinyl. Works great and there was no residual trace of the old numbers. Full removal process probably took my 20 minutes for each side.

Hair dryer and 3M adhesive remover is what I use. Be very cautious with a heat gun, as you can easily melt through your gelcoat. I'll be removing all those ugly stickers off my new boat shortly as well.

I second the 3M decal eraser wheel. I used one wheel to take off all the decals on a 2002 Ski Nautique and it worked like a champ. I spent the 25 dollars to get a 3M instead of a knock off. I did not want it to come apart in my face while I was running it. I worked great no damage to the gel coat and it was quick.
