I have seen a post about this before but I cannot find it now and the thread wasen't updated recently but I am hoping someone else has come up with a solution. I have 2008 196 Limited and my hour gauge is only reading 999 and will not go any further. I have read several topics about this but not one topic ever came up with a solution, some said contact the dealer well the dealer doesn't know how to fix it.

Yep, I have heard that some of the gateway boxes of that era wouldn't display over 999 hours.
You can always hook the engine up to a DiaCom at the dealer and read the correct hours though.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

Have you contacted Faria about it, they are the MFR so perhaps have a solution.
Worse case scenario mount another hour meter under the dog house or under the helm, at least you can track service intervals, true hours will always be available via the Diacom

I have contacted Faria, and they said its a known issue and they cannot do anything about it. They suggested I install an hour meter in my boat someplace. Has anyone installed a hour meter in their boats? My boat doesn't have a key to start it so I couldn't hook a new meter to the ignition switch. I don't want to connect it to the "all on" switch just in case I left the switch on and the hours are ticking away when the engine isn't running. Any other thoughts?

I recently added this engine hour meter on Amazon since the original tach was non-functional and I sold the original perfect pass, which logged the hours, to replace it with my newer hydrophase unit.
I wouldn't pay $800 for the gateway box. That is a joke and a ripoff!
The hour meter is self-powered and attaches to one of the spark plug wires. I installed it about 10 minutes.
