Leave Screws or Remove & Fill

Just below my swim platform I have 4 screws by each ring where i think some sort of plastic contraption used to be on an OG210. Should I just leave the screws OR remove and fill? If remove and fill, then what should I use to fill the screw holes with?

Id put the cups back and then seal the screws with 3m 4200 or similar. I removed the cups years ago on my boat and temporarily just added some fresh 3M 5200 with the screws back in place... I've since filled and patched the holes for a finished look. I use 3M 5200 to mostly fill the screw holes, then patched the rest with gelcoat. It's such more work, but well worth it!

I removed the cups because I use the rings at boat raft ups since I don't have rear cleats. This makes it much more to access the rings.

They are there to prevent deadly carbon monoxide from passing thru the platform openings.

I thought the cups were there to eliminate using the eyes as a towing point for tubes or skiing? I thought it was so the rings were to be used as a lifting rings only since the platform would be in the way of the rope. I know my old 99 super sport had them as well. Cant imagine how it helps with fumes. The cups dont go anywhere other than eliminating the rings to be used in a upward manner. Ive been drinking today, so maybe I should stop...

Quinner is right about the CO thing. Just replace the cups. They used to be over $40 a piece 8-10 years ago. They're made of garbage ABS plastic just like the interior side panels of today's current model boats that the cabin speakers mount to. Plan to replace them every 2-4 years-depending on sun exposure. The boat looks more finished with them than without if you care about cosmetics.

Never a good idea to tow from the deck mounted lift rings as the lateral load can cause gel cracking.

So when towing do you just tie down to the teak deck brackets then? I have always thought the rings would be best instead of putting stress on the platform.

Yes. Tie to the swim platform brackets. Not to the teak.

That's the original reason I removed the cups... I don't like the idea of using the platform brackets to hold the boat to the trailer. I did that for a bit before deciding to use the lift rings. It doesn't really matter for aesthetics considering the cups will be under water anytime the boat is sitting still. The only negative impact I can truly say is if floating and a wave hits the boat from the stern water will splash up through the holes spraying anyone who might be chilling on the platform... You're at the lake and should be wet anyway!

In the grand scheme having those two holes opened up isn't going to make a big difference in CO emissions... Gas will still bubble up from everywhere else around the platform. If you're that worried about CO just keep the boat turned off anytime someone is on the platform.
