Why is my strainer cup so hard to get on and off?

My strainer cup on my 2014 210 is very hard to get on and off compared to my old boat 2005 sante. It almost seems as if I would need a wrench.

I am pretty sure these have a square shouldered gasket (think oil filter gasket) instead of an o-ring. If so, they bind more and do not release as easy. If you can pick up some silicone (not petroleum based) gasket lubricant and lube the gasket, it will still seal will but will remove much easier next time. If the gasket is not lubbed, the dry rubber binds against the dry plastic. We use the following around our shop on filter gaskets and orings.

You can most likely find a smaller container much cheaper than this.

I used grease and it is still very difficult. The one in my old boat was very much easier.

It is hard to turn for the entire threading.
