Need some engine help, 2000 Super Air 5.8 PCM.

Hi... put my boat in today, enter start code, everything comes on as normal.
Press start button, motor fires up, release start button, motor stops instantly.
Seems to me it's electrical cut off after I release the start button. If I hold the start button the motor will run.
    (Along with the starter).
Guessing that it's something when it changes from ignition/start to run mode?? But I don't know ....
Any thoughts to what I can look at myself? I looked at the breakers and fused, none were popped.
    Thanks!

Is the "kill switch" lanyard attached?

Yep, I pulled the lanyard clip out depressed the button few times, put it back. It'll stay running as long
as I didn't let go of the start button. Let it go and almost instantly, shuts off quickly. Not a sputter stop,
      but instant off. Thx mg

Mine does not have a push button, but a normal ignition switch. I am not sure exactly what your configuration is there but I have to imagine you have a key. Whatever is used to select run, accessory, start, etc should be checked. It sounds like your run circuit is dead. This could be caused by many things. Loose wires, a wire that has grounded somehow, faulty switch or relay. I would start at the ignition and follow that "down stream"

Wondering if the key pad could be bad, it's a possibility

^^^My guess too. I'm not 100% sure how to test it, but I imagine that the run circuit should be supplying 12v after the code is entered and start button is pushed once. The second press energizes the start circuit which is obviously working fine. If you can figure out which wires are for the run circuit, you could use a multi-meter to figure out if they are supplying power either before or after the second push of the start button.

I know you checked the lanyard clip and button. However, the symptom you describe is typical of a kill switch problem. I've experienced it a number of times with that vintage boat and engine. Try jumping across the terminals on the back of the kill switch and see if that solves the problem. It is a good place to start.

I have had this issue before in my 2001 SANTE and it was the ignition fuse poping. Maybe check that before digging deeper.
