1989 Ski Nautique 2001 system alarm

My 1989 Ski Nautique 2001 has some wiring issues under the dash. The horn did not work. After testing switches, etc.. found the horn bad and the wrong orange wire connected ( there were two orange wires with connectors under the dash). Wiring diagram I found shows the other orange wire should be connected to the system alarm. Traced wires and I'm pretty sure they are correct. I've attached the other orange wire to the alarm. How can I test to see if the alarm is working. I think that a temp alarm is the most important? How can I test that. Need advice.

Does the temp gauge work? If so keep your eyes on it. You will know if it overheats. How hard is it to get the dashboard off on these things and access the wiring? I have an 88 SN2001 that needs gauges maintenance and my horn doesn't work either.
