    Steering wheel click

Went out for the first time this year last weekend.

I noticed that when the wheel is rotated to left it makes a single click noise at about the 10 o'clock position.

As I continued left and spun the wheel no click. Then turning back right to straighten out nothing until back at the original 10 o'clock it clicked.

    Any ideas?

I had a similar experience last year. Swore it was the cable and rack, like a bad tooth or something. I could even hear it behind the dash. Replaced the cable/rack and it was still there. Ended up being the rudder packing. Replaced packing, greased with synthetic and solved. Wish I would've gone to the packing first. 10 min job versus the steering cable pita.

I'll add, with click, the steering also kind of locked in that spot...for lack of a better description. Like it missed a rack tooth and hopped to the next.

Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna attempt to pull and replace the rudder packing. There is def some play in the rudder if I jiggle it from the outside.

I think I'll need to get some 3/16" packing and a couple 2 1/4 in wrenches.
