I put in a new steering cable on my 1997, Ski Nautique w/ GT-40 and when I am turning under power, it gets very tight and becomes a two handed turn. When coming out of the turn it will somewhat "jump" once I get past a turning point and becomes easy to turn again. Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas? The boat is only on a ski lake and would like to tighten up the steering any way possible.

Sounds like maybe the rudder port needs to be greased. I'm having that same issue.
Trying to round up a 2 1/4" wrench and some 3/16" Gore-Tex packing.
Check two local shops yesterday both had flax.
Anyone have an opinion on flax vs GFO packing?

You sure the cable was attached to the tiller when the steering wheel was in the middle of lock to lock? Might have the steering cable biased to one direction of middle.Comment

Thanks for the responses! I repacked rudder and greased 2 years ago but will double check that. I will also check the cable attachment to see if it's biased, could be off a bit. Have any of you had a luck tightening up the steering? I love my boat but hate the play in the steering wheel (the whole reason for the cable replacement to begin with).Comment
