I change mine twice a season. I always change the oil when I winterize the engine so it won't sit all winter with dirty oil (acids in dirty oil do bad things to bearings). I start the season with this new oil and usually change again halfway through the season.
I do it at the same interval as the oil. By the time the oil is drained I can drain and fill the transmision. Why? It gives me something to do other than complain about the length of time it takes to drain the oil.
It also saves more beer for when I'm out on the water.
