The gauge jumping around right from the get go does tend to point to an electrical issue of some sort. I agree that at 200* you would not be able to rest your hands on the exhaust risers far any amount of time. Having a random wire in the helm would not surprise me...CC has not always been known for their clean wiring jobs.

Also, sorry if I came off harsh in the comment about your brother in law. It was not intended. When I bought my first boat, I also knew next to nothing. On the test drive, I noticed the temp go up to 190-200 and asked the sales guy about it and he had the same reply, "That's normal...same as every car." Only after visiting this and other CC forums did I learn the truth, which is why they are here. Glad you found the site and I am sure we will figure out the problem. Let us know what happens when you put in the new gauge.

No worries man, I'm in GR too (Byron Center) so maybe we can share a beer or cocktail and enjoy our Nautiques together...

That being said, I should apologize as I was just really frustrated with this "issue" and it appears now that it is nothing to worry about. I have learned so much from the guys on this site that I may not have bought one of these boats if I hadn't seen how helpful everyone is with each other.

Where do you guys boat at around GR? We are on Wall Lake (15 minutes southeast of Gun Lake in Delton).

Just an update, not that anyone cares, but the temp sensor was bad. Dealer got me one and mailed it down to the service place where the boat is now. Pretty cool that for a used boat the guy hooked me up at no charge (I'll still pay labor) but the guys at Boat House Marine in Ohio are top notch.

Glad they took care of you. The President of BHM (James) and General Manager (Chris) both worked for Ron Overburger at Ron's Marine which was the largest Nautique dealer in the Midwest for many years. They know their stuff!
As for those darn Ohio roads, they must have known you were from ichigan and have goblue in your screen name. Lol....

Enjoy your summer on your Nautique!
          Ski on dude!
