    Oil Types?

I have an 03 206> What kind of synthetic oils are you guys happy with ? How about a tranny oil? What types?

I couldn't find the specs for oil types and quantities in the site offered manuals.

    I appreciate the help.

    RE: Oil Types?

Any good dyno oil should be fine if you follow the oil change intervals as noted in the owner's manual. These engines don't get as hot as the car engine due to the ample supply of cool lake water to keep the engine temps under control.

Heck, I don't get but about 15 hours per oil change since I change it on a time basis.

Check for the PCM engine owner's manual, it has a breakdown of fluids and I think the maintenance schedules. I just try to use good grade oil. i don't think synthetics would really help a newer engine as much as timely changes.

Here's the link for your year, the manual should have the maintenance breakdown:

FWIW I use Royal Purple in all of my engines. That goes for tranny fluid too. Regards!! Mike

I could be wrong but I don't think PCM recommends synthetic oils....

I use AmsOil Synthetic and am very happy with it. Have used it in both my boats and also my fathers outboard Merc.

One of the main reasons PCM doesn't recommend synthetics is they don't want you to extend your change intervals. Whether your choosing to run a synthetic or staight weight penz make sure to follow the suggested interval schedule from the owners manual. They have also not seen any test that suggest the use of synthetic provides any added lubrication or benefit.

That being said I still run the synthetic as piece of mind thing.

Also, don't use synthetic for the 1st 100 hrs. It hinders the rings from seating properly. After that you are good to go.

I would think 100 hrs is a bit excessive. PCM quotes a break-in period somwhere in the range of 10-20 hrs. I think you would be safe to change over to synthetic at that point.

I thought that was my old boat. Glad to see that you found this great site!

Sadest day of my boating life...selling my 81\' Nautique. However, replaced it with an 03\' 206 Air Nautique. Still the best boat on the lake!!!

I use synthetic in all my engines. PCM now allows it (page 30 on the mannual) they reccommend the same oil change intervals

how many hours are on the engine? i wouldn't suggest switching to synthetic after 300hrs. but, if u have fairly low hours, the synthetic should do ur engine some good. mobil 1 gets pretty good reviews as well as the amsoil. royal purple gets a lot of advertisement, but i don't know much about the actual quality. i personally don't think u can go wrong really.

the problem with synthetics is if the boat sits for a long period of time the syns. do not stay on adhear to the parts. wich causes excessive wear on start up and an lets moisture cause damage if you store your boat over the winter. if you run the boat on a regular basis you will not have a problem. the syns. are not worth the extra money use a blend and you will be just fine. and always follow the intervals.i use kendall synthetic blend.
