Grant you might want to see if your mechanic has a breakout box for the ford to diagnosis this problem as I have had this same problem on a couple of Gt-40's and it turned out to be the ecm. but also when the engine is running try and wiggle the harness near the relays as there is a diode in the harness that some times goes bad and causes this problem.

Well I have had a chance to put some Hr's on my boat and I think "Knock on wood"
I have fixed my Runs for a second and then quits problem.

My problem went more along the line of this. After my boat was warm. It would be a Idleing along and then it would just quit. I would try to fire it up and it would run for a second and then just quit again I could do it over and over 10 times and it woud just do the same thing run for a second and then just die. As soon as I would open the engine lid and let some fresh air in the problem would seem to be fixed. In fact it might not quit again all day long or it might do it a few more times. It seem'ed to only do it after it was hot. The engin temp would read no higher than 140 on the water temp.

What seemed to fix it was cleaning the Idle air screeen. You have to remove the air Idle adjustment body form the throttle body and there is a wire screen in the throttle body. I just shot some Air and carb cleaner in the screen. (it didnt seem very dirty) but It hasnt quit since I did this quick fix. It only take about 5 min's to do so giv it a try [/b]

          found solution

it was a faulty kill switch. I tried several suggestions from readers relating to the kill switch then finally replaced the switch itself. solved the problem. thank you for all of your suggestions and support

I have a very similar problem with my '91 Nautique as described by SI: engine runs smoothly then just dies as if I turned off the ignition. Turns over strong each time but will not stay running. When I removed the air filter off the carb it improved. SI, is the screen you are talking about part of the metal air filter or inside the carb? Also, did you use a shot of compressed air then carb cleaner?

tjs, I will consider the kill switch as well. p.s. where exactly is it?

Soundillusion has a gt40, no carb, its FI. Kill switch is that thingy with a slinky looking lanyard near the throttle that the driver never connects to himself. In the event of a driver ejection its purpose is to kill the engine. I believe connecting the wires that run to it will effectivly bypass it.
