2002 Sante fuel sender

Has anyone tried to fix a fuel sending unit or trouble shoot one. By gauge for fuel is always off and never seems to work properly. It never reads past half full then seems to jump down. I know how to get to it. Any suggestions.

Sounds like the float arm may have rotated. I would pull the sending unit out of the tank and see what the float arm looks like. If nothing else, bend the float end down a bit so that it raises the arm higher. That will show a more full level on the gauge.

Is the float arm the steel rod you mean. I know there is the round cylinder type piece that floats up and down the gauge.

Are you sure you don't have this style? I thought this was used at least through 2002. This is the arm that could be bent incorrectly.

I am positive. I took it out in order to syphon water out of the bottom of my gas tank last year

You can take it out and put an ohm meter on the leads and then pull the float up and down to see that it's changing resistance. It could be that it's got a dead spot or not changing resistance. I don't know what the resistance it supposed to be but you can at least check that.
