    ZR-6 idle / 05 196

Taught some young kids to ski last night and noticed that the engine was slow to return to idle. I would have to wait for the engine longer than normal before shifting. Checked the PP cable and it seemed to be clearing the plastic engine cover. Any ideas? Similar condition to my 99 196 with a GT-40.

Return the throttle to idle and the engine drops right down to around 1100 RPM and then pauses before dropping the rest of the way.

I have been having the same problem with my 05 206 Excal 330, in for service twice and still doing it. Try removing the plastic cover and running, dealer suggested it may be interfering with the PP cable, that did reduce the occurances for me but not a total fix. Spoke to Midwest CC yesterday, they suggested I monitor the PP cable to see if it is retracting correctly, maybe run with dog house open so you can watch the cables, I am going to try that next time out. Very annoying problem, w/mine on occassion the only way to get the idle back down is to shut the motor off, pause and restart.

Thanks, I'll try removing the cover tonight. I was told about that and checked but it seems to have adquate clearance. Probably also try running with the doghouse open and see what is going on.

Never had it on either the clubs excalibur or my 02 with an excaibur. Both boats had PP Digital Pro.

Did have it on my GT 40 (99) and was told it was a software issue.

Does this happen with perfectpass both on and off?
It may be worth checking the points noted in the perfectpass installation instructions regarding Servo motor / Cable Testing and the Linkage Test. (refered to from the version 6.5 manual).
It may also be worth checking the integrity of the connections on the multi block connector just short of the servo motor itself.
        Hope this helps.

Perfect Pass off. Didn't get a chance to run it last night but hope to tonight. Everything seems okay with PP connections but you never know. Had a short once with the PP that was almost impossible to find.

It isn't an end of the world situation but is a pain when manuvering around docks or novice skiers.

I am not too familiar with the ZR6 unfortunately as I still run a 290HP Ford.
You mention a SW issue on a '99 with GT40. The only thing I can recall on the earlier version near that time frame was that the servo did not self tighten and required occasional hand tightening with the servo knob. I presume your current boat has a later version of SW.
If you experienced the symptoms with the PP switched off I doubt if the connector block I mentioned would be the cause. Still worth checking the points in the install manual as previously suggested though. Manuals available on download from this PN and from PP.
            Keep us posted on progress.

My '05 and '06 ZR6's both do/did it, my '02 excaliber and '03 and '04 ZR6's were fine. Although PP cable on non-fly-by-wire can cause it, it was not my problem. I think PCM (or GM) made a software change on the ZR6 in '05 that started the problem. (05 and 06 Excalibers don't seem to have the problem). Since there is no PP servo or cable on the '06 Limited, that can't possibly be the cause. Both the '05 and '06 would do it even with the throttle cable disconnected. It has to be software. Complain to PCM.
