08 sv211 ballast switch issues resolved

So, I recently bought an 08 sv211 currently in transformation to a more serious surfing and wakeboarding rig. Upon checking all of the electronics out nav, bilge, etc...I found the port side ballast empty function to be inoperative. Did some basic diag and found that if I switched the connectors on the reversible water puppy pumps, the problem would follow the plug for port side switch. Quick diag and assumed I had a faulty switch (quick assumptions are never good). Ordered the switch and upon taking the switch panel apart, I found several diodes on the backside of the switches immediately thinking great there's a failure waiting to happen. I carefully removed the plethora of wires from the "bad" port side switch and installed new one... same issue. Great, get the multimeter out and check operation of diodes thinking for sure these would be my problem... false alarm they work fine. Next step, follow power through harness to relay/breaker box next to battery in port side aft corner. Power coming in and proper power coming out to pumps.... I am now scratching my head, oops another beer is now consumed...with power everywhere, only thing left to check is ground since this relay and pump system alternates the ground to effectively reverse the pump. More checking and boom, somehow main harness ground just for port side pump is not getting completed. Tapped wire into ground buss bar in rely box and not it works as it should. I can't imagine I'm the only guy to experience this lengthy headache, hopefully this insight helps someone out!

This is sooooooo helpful. I also have a 2008 SV211 and am having the exact same issue. Also, the cigarette charger doesn't charge. Can you clarify in your second to last sentence which wire (where) you re-grounded. And by "tapped" you mean ran a new wire? Just a bit of clarification on the fix it steps would be helpful!

If you have power to the wires at the cigarette lighter, check all your connections at the back and inside, possible that corrosion has effected things. That happened to one of mine on my 2014. Personally, I recently replaced my cig lighters with duel USB plugs. For my boat they were plug and play and very easy to swap. Very few things you can use cig lighter for nowadays and none of the adapters want to stay plugged in and have bad connections.

Here is what I bought to replace mine, they work excellent and quick charge my phones with the 3.0 plug. I even added a wireless charger for my phone at helm and I can use the BT on phone to play tunes and phone still quick charges with these plugs.

I can’t remember which wire it was, I just traced the circuits by finding out which switch gave power to which breaker. Once you locate the correct circuit ( within the box assembly) give that ground a jumper to a new ground and hit the switch. Use some alligator clips before you go and start splicing things.
