2000 Air Nautique needs new engine

Can anyone tell me what engine is in the 2000 Air Nautique? It's the base model. It needs a new engine. I'm also wondering the cost of a new long block?

    What's wrong with the engine?

Most likely it's a Ford 351,the most common of which was the Fuel injected GT40 but there where also C
other Ford and GM engines available.

Yes a long block could work.

You can get rebuilt long blocks for 2 to 3k.

Apparently they don't make my engine anymore. It's a pcm gt 40. The rings are shot. They did a compression test and one cylinder was at 150 one at 190 and one at 195.... not sure what this means since I'm not a mechanic. I just talked to a guy that works on Nautique and he told me depending on how bad the engine is that it might need a whole new engine and since they don't make mine they would have to put in a new Chevy with all new wiring ect which would cost 20000.

I had a local race shop rebuild mine, went back with better pistons (hyperuetectic), better cam for low end pulling. Total cost was around 2200$. New pistons, rings, bearings, timing chain, gaskets and had the rotating assembly balanced. I was going to buy a motor from skidim but they are expensive.

Now I'm not sure what engine it has. It says on the top pcm 5.0 HO? But I've had people tell me it's a chevy but after researching people tell me it's a Ford???

Always rebuild if not destroyed! 351 ford and 350 gm long blocks are available at Oreillys and auto zone. For a few dollars more the machine shop rebuild would give you upgraded parts and better performance but quick turnaround and savings is long block.

Find a new mechanic, that one is a moron and/or trying to rip you off. If it's just low compression yours can probably be rebuilt for under $1000. Since you are not mechanically inclined it would probably be about $2000-2500 to have a shop do it. To answer your question a reman long block is $1995.

Only one cylinder had low compression? Probably just rings. If everything else was fine, just have it rebuilt as everyone else is saying and you'll be ahead of the game. It's true that some parts may be difficult to find for the GT40, but the block is just Ford stuff. Unless you were experiencing significant other issues, changing to a completely different power plant is a bit crazy.
