The fuel gauge on my 2003 ski 206 appears to have died. Before I start messing with the gauge cluster, I thought I would see if the problem is simply a bad sending unit. Has anybody dealt with this problem? Any ideas how best to (1) access this unit and (2) test it?

I have a 2004 210 that I just had to have the sending unit replaced on. It was not reading but if I tapped the top of the unit with a wrench and it would work until the tank got low then it would stick again and stop working. I was going to replace it myself but the dealer said it needs to be pressure tested afterwards and seeing it was still under warranty I just had them fix it. Give it a tap and see if it starts to work.

It will be on the top of your fuel tank. Looking at your owner’s manual on this site your fuel tank should be under the back seat. I can access mine by removing the cushion and taking out the storage bin and the sending unit is right there. I hope this helps. If it is bad it should still be under warranty and my dealer told me he could change it as I waited, I had other things done so I choose not to wait but it should be a quick fix.

Found the unit through the trunk. I had to pull out the panels and there she was. I tapped it a few times to no avail. On recommendation of the dealer, I "grounded out" the unit and the gauge jumped to full so it is indeed the sending unit. Given the tight quarters, it will be a real pain to replace this thing, so it will wait until I have time to take the boat out of service and to the dealer.
My 67 CC mustang didn't have a fuel gauge so I am used to just filling up after every session.
