    0 Oil Pressure

Hey Guys, I'm new to the forum here and appreciate any help in advance... My 2008 SAN 220's oil gauge was pegged at 0 today. Yesterday it was working fine. The boat was running normal both days. Is there a way to understand if its the gauge, sending unit, or pump? It just pegged to 0 and stayed there... Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

If its still running normal its more than likley the sender . To confim you must attach a test oil press gauge . That will give the real oil pressure.

Just to verify you could quickly start the motor. Take the oil filler cap off and look to see if there is oil flowing under the valve covers. If so, you have oil pressure. If not rapidly shut the motor off, as you have no oil pressure. Most likely it is the sending unit and follow the above mentioned process or purchase a new sending unit and replace. If it is not the sending unit, it could be the gauge. But I would check wire connections first. With it working one day and then not the next a wire coming loose or corroded would be my first place I would look.

Thanks for the reply guys. I do have oil flowing under valve covers. Of coarse, no one had a test gauge with out having to order it. One more thing, there is no low oil pressure light or buzzer. Would this signal if the sender was bad? Also has anyone ever checked voltage at the gauge to validate presence of a signal?

If you have any mechanic freinds they will have the oil test gauge. Also check with Advance and Auto zone they sometime have loaner tools.

Typically, oil pressure warning is a separate system than oil pressure indication via the gauge. So the fact that the guage reads zero but your oil pressure warning system is not giving you any warning would indicate that it's very possible that your oil pressure is fine and it's just your guage system that's faulty. That's just an assumption though, would certainly get it figured out asap before continuing to use the boat as is.

It was the gauge... took 2 minutes to replace. Thanks for the help.
