    Thermostat dead

    1997 Super Sport Nautique

I am the proud 3rd owner of a beautiful boat. We just recently ran into some issues with the boat choking itself while going as slow as possible. Time cures the problem after 20-60 seconds. There are some other issues I am not sure if they are related. The temp gauge stopped working so I have the dealer who winterized it replace the gauge and fuel filer, they of course didn't check to see if the temp gauge was working, it was not a gauge problem. After replacement of the fuel filter the boat now has some backfiring when its opened up, that is new this year. The heater also has not worked, could these issues be related?

On a side note, how do I tell the exact model of the engine and if I have the EFI or Protec, etc??

The boat is also due for plugs, wires which I plan on getting done.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

First welcome to the forum, enjoy your new boat. First take a picture of the engine and post it so people can see what you have before they give you advice. Also there is another forum that deals a lot with the older boats, Correctcraft fan .com.

I've been having similar problems also. Im telling myself it was multiple problems...my symptoms were lots of fuel in the oil...the same backfiring at around 2500 RPM ...fouled plugs...after new injectors...TCP sensor...plugs...wires...thinking it could be the pressure regulator

last time out I thought the same thing about my temp gauge(not working ) cause it wouldn't move...just this evening I put in a new thermostat and the temp rose and I think my problem went away...I'm having a hard time believing it was law from that thermostat stuck open.
