    1997 Supersport studdering

I have a 1997 Super Sport with a GT40. Starts, runs, idles great.
It seems to have a studder when crusing. It could happen when accelerating or just crusing at a certain speed. It doesn't stall out just rpms drop and then will kick back in.
Drained fuel and changed fuel.filter in the FCC as it seemed like bad gas, but that hasn't fixed it.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Agreed. On a 97 most likely the distributor cap and rotor have never been replaced. A set of plug wires for that boat isn't expensive either. Replace those too.

Maybe also check/ replace the in line fuel filter. Those can become clogged also.

The inline filter/check valve at the tank can become clogged and will allow slow flow without symptoms but at running speed its not enough fuel flow.

I don't see an in line filter. I have two hoses coming off the tank. One to the fcc and one to the low pressure fuel pump. Straight hoses you both...

There probably isn't an in-line filter on a 1997. There certainly wasn't on my 99 Air Nautique. The only filter was the one inside the FCC.

Ask East tx skier (I believe thats his username). He has extensive experience with a similar issue as yours involving an inline filter. He has a red ski nautique that I believe is a 97. Good luck

I had a similar run problems and replacing the distributor solved it. You can get a rebuild from Napa for cheap. I think it's the pickup in the distributor starting to fail...it's a replaceable part...if you can get the gear off. Pulling the gear seems to require some magic so a rebuilt unit was much simpler.

I would tune it up first, cap, rotor and plugs, maybe wires. If you know how you can scan the computer for codes, just like a 5.0 Mustang. That will let you know if you need distributor work.

I checked aps and filter in the tank and they are clean.
I will change cap and rotor along with plug and wires this weekend.
                      any other thoughts?

I think you should have replaced the spark system before doing anything else
