    Vingegar + water + spray-on wax

I've read through all the threads on here that mention vinegar/water to get water spots off; a couple mentioned adding some spray-on wax to the mix.

Yesterday at the boat launch--a fisherman with a bass boat pulled his boat out then busted out a spray bottle and sprayed/wiped his boat down in less than 5 minutes. Did this in bright sunshine. I walked over and asked what his magic formula was. He said about 90% water and 10% white vinegar.

We picked up our boat about a week ago and I've been too enthralled to do any cleaning, waxing, etc. New boat lift is coming tomorrow--so now I need to work on it before a more extended stay on the lift.

Looking for recommendations as to how to proceed.

Thinking I'll try the vinegar and water and spray-on wax/cleaner. Wondering if anyone that swears by this could give a recipe. Plan on trying it to clean and wipe and remove all the spots--then using a machine to rub some wax/cleaner and and wipe off by hand.

    TIA for any input.

Thanks. But looking to try the vinegar and water possibly with spray-on wax/cleaner first.

Hot Sauce is the only way to go! Down here in Texas we have lakes with very hard water. Hot sauce makes the boat look brand new in about 10 minutes for the entire boat. Buy the gallon size. My .02....

I'm cheap, I do 1/8 to 1/4 vinegar, 1/4 windex, rest water. Spray and wipe with a microfiber or chamois. It clears spots and grime well, and I've been slowly decreasing the quantity of vinegar I put in to decrease the wax stripping, but the farther you go, the more elbow grease you'll need. Even with the vinegar stripping some wax, my wax sticks around well where I only need to wax generally two or three times a season.

Edited to add: If you go the mix yourself route, try and find the heavier duty/chemical compatible spray bottles. Over time, the vinegar will break down the o-rings in the cheap bottles and they'll start leaking. Fleet farm had some good ones (since it looks like you're up here in MN)

I have wondered about this. Last year I used Babes and this year I plan to try Hot Sauce. We don't however have hard water and water spots have not been an issue for me. I do have issues with coloring and tannin stains. Are there any cleaners that help with these without having to use the acidic hull cleaners ?

The thing about the hot sauce is that it is one step to cut the water spots with the vinegar component and also has a wax component so it does not strip the wax and leaves a shiny finish. Nice.

So I have done thourough reviews on all the major wipe downs. boat bling hot sauce , boat candy speed gloss, babes boat bright, ducky.

While There are definitely leaders in that category the short review is Hot Sauce by far handles the hard water spots the best , but the Boat candy Speed Gloss leaves the deepest shine and wax look.

I am in and out of the water a crap ton. If I relied solely on those products I would be broke after a long hot summer. I use those products on the final day of the weekend or week , but use a mix of Vinegar and Water mostly. I am more of an 80-20 70-30 water/vin guy . It works great , attacks all the water spots , and cleans the boat with ease. The issue you run into is that the vinegar/water solution strips a little wax each time and you really need to use a wax/cleaner like the Boat Bling or Boat candy to keep the maintenance to a minimum. A lot of people focus on the then and now regarding water spots and what gets them off the easiest. What's usually forgotten and never mentioned is the fact you need a good solid wax base on your boat to make that removal easier . So using a spray wax product for in between with "protectants and barriers" really makes the wipe down easy and prevents water spot build up. If you never waxed or never use a product like that the water spots would attached much deeper to the fiberglass because its porous and be harder to make disappear.

I am am sure that was way more useless info than you wanted , but in summary the vinegar and water is a very cost effective solution, but you will stil need a waxed based product to really protect the gel and keep maintenance a breeze and you're boat looking glossy.

The works toilet bowl cleaner and a long soft bristle brush will remove that with ease in the hull. Just wear gloves. You can silkier it with some water or go full strength if need be.

I have used lime away for years and follow with a spray on wax. It's effortless and doesn't require scrubbing. Vinegar, hot sauce etc are all weak acids which gets the water spots off. Just replenish your wax each time and you can't go wrong.

I believe that this is exactly the same thing as Boat Bling Hot Sauce. I think it is the best.
                          http://pacificprodux.com/1-gallon-of...ayer-1-bottle/

You can also buy 3 gallons at a time.

If cost is an issue, then use the wax, vinegar and water mix.
