Need some help from anyone who has experience repacking the shaft nut on a 2004 SV211. Just picked the boat up a few weeks ago and it was dripping pretty rapidly from the gland nut. Tightened it a bit but that just made it worse, now it's basically a slow stream. A decent amount of hours on the boat so I'm going to repack it but after reading volumes of information on the web I'm still not convinced which way to go. Two questions: 1) Can anyone tell me with certainty, what size packing to use? I've actually gotten two different responses from two different dealer service departments 1/4" from one and 3/16" from the other. Nautique Parts isn't even clear on it. . I would really like to crawl in there just once to do the whole thing without taking it apart and then picking up the material etc.
2) The wax vs Gortex debate. This is a 2004, so I do not believed it was designed for drip-less and I've read about heat problems using Gortex. I do not want to get into a self inflicted problem, few things more aggravating than that. But at the same time, if there is substantial benefit to going with Gortex I'll seriously consider it.
Any advice is appreciated.
