Great, thank you guys for the advice and 2001 Python for the pics. I acutally looked at some surge brake kits on etrailer and they're not too expensive. Was pouring out today so couldn't do anything to the boat. Hoping to get the steering cable and impeller done this weekend.

I had a Ramlin and just replaced the coupler and brakes. I think the cooler is around 150 and the brakes around 50 per side.

Took me all day but it did it with the boat on the trailer( which I would never do again) recon it would've taken 4 or 5 hours without the boat on the trailer. Not bad considering I got the trailer fully serviced.

Ok thanks Paul, since my trailer is only a single axle it shouldn't be too difficult/expensive. Pulled the kick panel today just to get it ready for the steering cable replacement which I'll do tomorrow. Also realized that the "lock" by the throttle is to unlock the rear hatch. The pin on mine was frozen so I took it apart and broke the top off trying to get it unstuck. I'd like to fix it if I can, anyone know if this is the correct part? https://www.nautiqueparts.com/produc...rm-latch-long/

Finally got the boat out today! Ran great, but has a slight vibration above 25mph. Not sure what that was but I'll have to take a better look at the prop tomorrow. Also, it was such a pain getting it on and off the trailer without a winch, I've never used the Ramlin turnbuckle system before and it was miserable. Took me multiple tries to load the boat as I've never "power on" a trailer before. Anyone have any tips for the turnbuckle system? I'll probably just install a winch for future use.

You didn't update on the steering cable/rudder situation, but that rudder most definitely needed to be greased. Did you do that that when you replaced the cable?

No didn't grease it, but the noise went away when it was in the water. Steering felt great!

I'd bet dimes to dollars that the cause of the vibration is your prop.

When I purchased my boat it came with two props, both OJ and both the same pitch and diameter. The prop that was on the boat when purchased ran great and had been on the boat for a while as it was discolored from water use. The other prop that came with the boat was all sorts of shiny and looked to be new... it was not.

Withing the first few weeks of ownership I changed out the "old prop" for the shiny new one and was rewarded with a significant vibration across the rpm range.

I was baffled, it looked to be new, so I must've screwed up on the install some how.

Pull the boat back out and remove and reinstall the prop... everything looked fine on removal but I still reinstalled. The vibration remained across all rpms.

Pull the boat back out again and install the old prop... smooth as silk, no vibration.

Upon close inspection of the shiny "new" prop, it appears as though one blade had ever so slightly more cup than the others. I'm talking about only being able to really notice it with the use of a straight edge. How it became like this I do not know, perhaps it hit something or maybe it was a bad repair. Point of all this... the smallest of flaws in a prop can have large effects.

Thanks, it has no noticeable imperfections but I'll have to pull it off and look closer

Just a few thoughts: on the fake-a-lake, just get a 1" I.D. Clear tubing from Home Depot, connect it to the input of the water strainer and put the other end in a 5 gallon bucket with a hose replenishing it.

For the oil change put a gallon ziplock bag around it to drop it into as you screw it off.

GT40 needs zinc additives in the oil - search the forum there are a bazillion threads on this.

I occasionally ski on quinsigamond, if you see a red/white ski nautique, that's me.

Thanks for the tips! I just have to pick up some tubing and a connector this week. I actually took it out on quinsigamond Saturday night. It's a good lake for testing the boat but I wouldn't want to spend a day on it. Being in Worcester it's too crowded and nobody knows how to operate a boat since massachusetts only requires a drivers license.

Yep - agreed, quinsigamond is outright unsafe after 9AM on the weekends with all of the Yahoo!'s that show up there...
