Rpm and temp gauge are working?

What do these 2 things have in common? These are the only 2 gauges that aren't working. The RPM gauge acts funny sometimes it will just be at 0 and other times it works fine, it will also get stuck at idle rpm even when motor is reved up. Thanks

There is a ground string tying the gauges together. You can run an extra ground without harm. Do the gauge lights work properly or affect the gauge reading when you flip on the lights?

The backlighting for the gauges does not work at all except the ballast gauges...

I then suggest you run new grounds and see.

Some run new heavy gauge ground (and positive) to the cockpit from the battery as supposedly the original wiring wasn't sufficiently heavy. You could always just try running a jumper between the ground on the battery and gauges and see if that gets them working. If it does, you could do a more permanent fix.

Great advice thanks I'll give that a shot. How do these grounds work with the serial bus? I assume it still requires these grounds?

Yeah, serial bus requires grounds, too. It is the reference voltage. (0V)

It is possible both gauges are crapped out, too. Faria, it seems, isn't known for reliability given all of the gauge replacement threads around here.

Pretty sure the tach signal wire is a grey wire that comes from the coil. Make note that it is in place on the tach when you wire up the jumper.
