Sport Nautique GT40 Won't Stay Running

Went to fire up the boat tonight after replacing the impeller to make sure everything is working right, and the engine won't stay running. After doing some reading it looks like I'll need to check fuel pressure and spark? Also read it could be the fuel relay on the back of the engine? I recorded a video of the problem. As soon as the engine dies it sounds like pressure is relieving. The noise after that is just my dad filling the bucket back up with water. Just wanted to hear some people's opinions until I can open it up tomorrow after work and take a look.

Check the safety switch lanyard. This was the same problem FINKA had earlier this year and that was the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion Kyle, I'll have a look at that tomorrow. It is possible I bumped it when sliding the seat around when I replace my steering cable last weekend.

Almost for sure that's what it is. The safety lanyard behavior in the late 90s and early 2000s behaved exactly this way. The engine would start but immediately shut off.

Thank you guys! It was the safety lanyard. All I did was pull the wires off the back and bridge the gap with another wire, and it worked! I'm just gonna bypass the lanyard and solder the wires together.

Don't do that. The lanyard is there for a reason.

Who actually connects their lanyard to themselves? I did the same thing.

I do and so does anyone that drives my boat.

Had boat out for the first time yesterday. (Impeller was replaced by dealer when they winterized it in the fall.) Fired up the boat, ran it for a few minutes at the launch, impeller drips slightly...Took it out for a ride anyway. Ran fine for about 15-20 min and then quit. Would fire, start up, and quit. Or would start up, run for 30 sec and then quit. Would love any suggestion on where to start troubleshooting. Battery is older...maybe not enough volts?? Have read could be bad kill switch (with lanyard), fuel relay(s), distributor cap, plug wires, fuel pump, and maybe some more...
