    Faulty neutral safety switch

Hi there, I've had a problem with the neutral safety switch now for a few months, now and again it wouldn't start and when I wiggled the throttle stick it would then start no problem, however it seems to be getting worse and sometimes it won't start at all (especially when cold) so I have to resort to bridge the starter solenoid so as not to ruin a good day, where do I start looking for this switch? It's a 2007 196 with Excalibur 330

    Thanks in advance

    Regards

Just had a read further on this topic, will the switch be on the gear box and be controlled by the cable or will it be on the throttle leaver itself?

On top of your transmission. Should have 2 terminals on the switch which threads into the tranny.

Thanks for that, so I'm guessing I have first need to test the terminals with a multimeter and adjust the cable most likely, failing that a new switch, thanks for your help.

If I recall correctly....To test the linkage you could remove the switch, place the throttle control lever in neutral and look down the hole where the neutral switch would go. You should clearly see the detent through the hole, if not then adjust your tranny shift cable accordingly. When you pull the safety switch you will see a steel ball that when depressed activates the safety feature telling the ignition circuit the boat is in gear and not to let it crank over. In neutral the detent in the transmission should prevent the ball from compressing up into the switch and allow the ignition circuit to crank the engine. Unless you've messed with your transmission linkage prior to this neutral problem then I'd be willing to be its your safety switch that needs cleaning or replacement.

That's great advice and I will do the job in that order, I must have saved myself a small fortune with good advice from this forum. Thanks again.
