    My oil sender keeps failing

    2006 SANTE
    ZR6 engine

I've replaced my oil sender 4 times in 5 years. It's getting ridiculous. It goes like this...the gauges on the dash (analog and digital) both begin to show low readings. Then the alarms start and it's so annoying. To give myself peace of mind, I installed a temporary mechanical gauge, which proved I always have good pressure under all conditions. Since I was down there anyway, I replaced the sender (again) and the gauge readings improved and the alarm stopped (except for the single blip I get coming off of WOT but that has always been there). So I'm on my 4th sender now...anyone else had this issue? I've purchased them from nautiqueparts as well as west marine and nothing seems to last too long. If it fails again, I'm installing a remote oil pressure line and running the sender up to the top side of the engine so I can do this in 10 mins vs 3 hours. I'm beginning to think maybe it's just too hot down there for the sender - there is almost zero air flow where it is located and I personally felt the temp of the oil passing through it today - just a degree short of **** itself. But certainly others with a 2006 SANTE ZR6 aren't having this issue (or are they?).

I'm looking for any ideas or theories as to why it keeps failing. The wiring all looks fine - I've inspected it pretty well. The old gauge shows an impedance of 246 ohms which I googled to find is "normal for US gauges at 0 PSI" which mine was at 0 PSI under this test.

    Thanks guys!

Hmm. Have you ever tried leaving the engine compartment blower on whenever the boat is running? If heat is the issue, it should help to keep the area somewhat cooler. Maybe even redirect the hose to where the sending unit is? Just a thought.
