Prop experts: In a pinch, could I use an ACME 1579 instead of a 1235 for a weekend?

    Hey gang,

Hypothetical question: I'm debating buying a spare 1235 for my 2017 SANTE 230. I do happen to have a 1579 here instead which is a bit different:

    1579

    DIAMETER 13.5"
    PITCH 14.25"
    CUP .105"
    SHAFT 1-1/8"" - Left

    1235

    DIAMETER 14.5"
    PITCH 14.25"
    CUP .105"
    SHAFT 1-1/8"" - Left

So obviously the only difference is the 1579 is an inch smaller. So would it work? Could I get away with it for a weekend or so until I got my 1235 repaired?

    Thanks!

Depends on what you want to do!!
Will the boat move : yes
Will the boat surf: probably but it'll spin faster in rpm to move it to same speed.

You have the risk it'll cavitate and cause some wash on heavy weighted boat.

It will be fine as a spare. It's going to be like going down 2" in pitch if not a bit more.

If you weight it heavy it will take forever to plane. I just came from using a 1579 on my 210. It was terrible at holeshot weighted down.

Fair enough. That's pretty much what I was expecting. Not great, but it'll do until I can get a new 1235 or have mine repaired.

          Thanks everyone!

The difference is diameter not pitch. you may loose hole shot as you are holding less surface area, watch your rpm's make sure not to over rev engine. otherwise not that much different. you may have a little more torque. as the engine will accelerate faster with less load. the pitch is the same so your planning speed should be close.
