    2004 SN 196 Power Loss after Zero Off Install

    Last year I purchased a 2004 SN 196, and converted it to drive by wire and Zero Off. Since then the hole shot and top speed aren't what it used to be, feels like a dog out of the hole and only reaching 41 mph at 4,600 RPM. It isn't a prop issue, as I have a higher elevation ACME on it. Any ideas? I've replaced spark plugs, distributor, FCC filter. Boat seems to run great, just not the power it should have.

    I don't know that drive by wire system specifically, but would guess it isn't achieving Wide open throttle (WOT). Is there a way to test for and calibrate WOT and throttle actuation?

      With the key in the "on" position the throttle is opened all the way. Haven't looked while the engine is running, but assuming it's working. Will have to check.

        HMMMMM. I don't know why the throttle would open all the way with the key "on". It would seem to me that if you attempted to start then, it'd rev wildly and maybe even blow the engine. That is unless it shuts immediately.

        Who makes the Throttle by Wire (TBW) conversion? I looked at the zero off site and it seems they offer only the speed controller, not the throttle by wire setup. With the TBW, you'd need a throttle position sensor added to the throttle, a controller, wire harness and motor-driven throttle body.

        I'd start by finding out who makes the TBW conversion and then reading their troubleshooting guide. It still sounds like you aren't getting WOT. That might be a calibration issue or might be a bad throttle body. Or even the wrong sized throttle body (one that is too small for you application would limit power, too).
