About the fuel filter, i dont know where it is. I can see the F/W seperator but dont know anything about it (and cant find any info). I also dont know where the filter is
The filter is in the F/W separator. When you unscrew the bottom half the filter is in the bottom. The whole grey part will come off, it will be filled with gas so have plenty of rags around. Or drain it from the bottom first.
This filter should be replaced Every year.
Just to let you know if you have not taken it apart, it will be hard to unscrew. An oil filter removal tool works well. A clogged filter will cause both problems when the boat heats up.

This doesnt look like the F/W seperator that i have. Mine looks much older. I will try to unscrew it anyway. Thanks

            UPDATE

Well, Skidim sent my parts, excelent service. We went out to the boat yesterday evening, and took the old EI out and swapped in the new, correct part from Skidim. Much different setup. Much more complicated, but the instructions were good.

So, everyone that told me i had the wrong ignition was....

            RIGHT!!!

The boat runs amazing now! We had to retime it, because the timing was way off, and the boat was missing left and right. Once timed, she idled down to 600 smoothly. We had to make some carburator adjustments, but once that was smoothed out everything was perfect again. The boat runs up to 4400 rpm (about 37 mph if our spedo is correct).

Now all i need to do is replace my starter relay when it comes. enough of this click,click,click.....

Thanks to everyone for their help. This website has changed the way i feel about the boat!!

            Jon

              RE: UPDATE

Jon, glad you've solved the problem. I would think that either your speedos are off, or you have the boat propped oddly. At 4400 rpms, I would expect 43 or 44 mph (assuming you don't have it loaded with a bunch of weight). BKH

How do i check the speedos? The prop is the original in perfect condition. It is a 3 blade. It is propped to top out right at 4400, the engine wont turn much faster, maybe 100 rpm. No vibration, everything is smooth. Since we have had it (10 years) we have never hit the prop.

                    Several options:

-Buy or borrow a little hand held GPS
-Drive it through a slalom course, time it and do the math
-Drive beside a couple of other boats whose speedos you believe to be accurate.
-Don't worry about it. Just enjoy your boat.
