SIAP: Anybody ever converted the opening mechanisms for compartments?

My 2007 SV-211 has the twist and lift latch, but that was the first place for my vinyl to crack so I'm looking to DIY a different mechanism while my boat is getting upholstered this winter. Anybody every attempted something like this? Below is the current latch (but not the lockable version).

I'm pretty sure there is a quick release style of hatch lock you could use like the guys with SANTE's that converted from electric opening full decks to gas shocks and latch. Maybe do a search for something along those lines and see what you come up with.

Found one, this is the type of latch I was thinking of. The link still works in this thread - https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...for-rear-hatch

Yeah that looks great. I will definitely be doing the same to my boat here soon. Thanks for the link

you're welcome! Please post final results as I might try this some day. I like the twist lock latches personally but guests on the boat always seem to have a harder time with those.
