    Fuel Filters

I have the EX 343 engine. It has 2 fuel filters.

How often do you guys change these? The manual says every 50 hours. That seems excessive to me.

I put around 200 hours on a season. Is every year ok, should I do 100 hours, or go back to every 50?

....I'm hoping I read the manual wrong on the interval change.

So if I have the same systems in my boat:

    - One is a fuel/water separator. It this a R077019. This is a spin-on canister style filter that should be replaced every 50 hours.

    - The other is a RP080026. This is a filter that goes inside of the Fuel Control Cell and it should be replaced every 200 hours.

Is there a trick to changing the R077019? If you remove it does fuel get everywhere?

No, it isn't too bad. If you've never changed it before, you WILL need a strap or filter wrench. The one that came from the factory on my 230 was just unreal tight. After wrangling with it for a while, I finally got the strap wrench in the right position and was able to move it about 1 degree.... It took a while to get it off.

After it starts to loosen, put an old towel under it just in case but you should be able to get it off and out of the boat without spilling fuel if you're careful.

New filter goes on HAND TIGHT only. No wrenches. There's a procedure in the PCM owners manual for priming it. Basically, you turn the ignition on without starting the engine, turn the ignition off, and turn it back on again.

You should definitely change this filter. It's the one that'll capture any water in the fuel and separate it out. I just buy oil and fuel filters 3 each at a time from Nautiqueparts and change oil, oil filter and fuel filter all at once.

          Thanks!

...I've been using Napa gold 1515 for my oil instead if the Nautique brand. Figured that was ok.

Every 100 hours is the transmission right? 2 qts of dexton 3 atf. What brand of atf do you use?

Yea, every 100 hours on the transmission is right. I'm not stuck on any particular brand. Dexron 3. Whatever they have at the auto parts store is fine.
