GT-40 battery issues??

1998 Sport Nautique with GT-40. My volt meter is showing 12-12.5 when the boat is running. No matter what I do I can't get it up to 13+. I feel like it's just barley keeping he battery recharged. So far I have replaces the battery and checked the connections, it does not seem to be any better any ideas or has someone had similar issues?

Check the alternator, maybe it burned up the voltage regulator on it. Just had an alt go bad, was 13+ the. Back down to 12. Replaced my 5+ year old batteries and got alternator rebuilt and all is good. I also have the 100 amp upgraded alternator.

What I really recommend is a load test. first if the battery is at all low it may be using the voltage to charge back up. what other draws do you have on your system. blowers, stereo amps etc. you can take alternator to rebuild shop for testing. I recommend rebuilding marine alt. rather than new. do you have multiple batteries with a battery switch? do you have a maintenance charger ? most lead acid batteries discharge as much as 10 percent weekly if not ran. Ski boats are constantly being started and stopped every 10 minutes or so. If your battery is demanding charge you will not see a voltage increase until the battery is charged.

I run the stereo and a amp to pull 2 tower speakers. I check the alternator and it's pushing out 14v and the battery is reading the same. I cleaned the grounds and sometimes the volt meter is reading 13 and other times 12ish but if I pull the hot wire that runs from the battery to my rpm gauge then to my volt meter it turns off perfect pass and the meter jumps to 14. I only have 1 battery(that's what's standard).

You likely need to run a new ground wire to your dash. This is a very common issue, especially on boats with PerfectPass. The ground wires installed from the factory are known to be undersize. I ran three new ground wires from the grounding point on the engine to the dash on my '98 Ski Nautique. I ran one directly to PP, one to the gauges, and one to the switches. My voltmeter reads 13.5 - 14 all the time now, and PP never loses connectivity.

One place to check will be the ends of the battery cables. Take the ends off the cables and make sure there is not any corrosion. between the clamps and the cables.

+1 for dash grounding. I completely repowered my PP and stereo and added more dash grounding on my 97. Problem solved.

I ran another ground just to PP and now I am running 13+. Thanks for all the help.
