      RE: cleaner for the hull

Not sure if this is 100% on topic, but didn't think it was worth starting another detailing/cleaning thread...

Anyway, I was giving the boat its first heavy-duty detailing yesterday and the day before, and when I finally got to the hull, I just skipped waashing it and went straight to the 303 spray bottle. Everything is perfect, except when I stand back and look at the blue and black only, not white, from a distance, I can see a lot of streak marks from the really soft rag I used to apply the 303. I know this is nothing new, and I'm sure you've all experienced it in the past, but is there a trick to clean the hull w/o having the ugly streak marks afterwards? The 303 creates a really nice protectant and has a nice shine to it, but the streaks ruin it big time. I see people using newspaper on windows and mirrors but never thought it'd be necissary on gelcoat before. Thanks...

RE: remove hull tinge spot (palm size)

You can get the Muratic acid at Home Depot. It is in the area around the concrete supplies.

How would that help? My problem isn't getting the water line off, its getting the 303 on w/o showing the streaks... whats so special about the Muratic acid?

            Craig -

Lime-A-Way works great and easy to find! We were at a lake in NY last week and the week long scum line was horrible after taking it out. Worst I have ever seen. Must have been a result of all the flooding...I was a little concerned if it would ever return to it's original beauty. Lime-A-Way has my vote, though you have to be patient with it. In this case it took about an hour of sitting time with three apps to really clean it up but it worked great. Put it on and walk away for awhile. Thanks for the advice.....showroom condition again.

I've tried everything mentioned above and by far and away the 50/50 Hydrogen Peroxide/Lysol Toilet Bowl cleaner mix beats the rest hands down - not even close - and it's fast. If you haven't tried it yet do yourself a favor and give it a whirl. Just make sure you wash the boat down afterwards.

                ZING!!!

To my knowledge, it cannot be bought anymore but this stuff WAS the bomb! Safe for decals and rub rails but deadly on the "white hull stains" and your nose.
If anyone knows if Zing is still available, please respond.

Lime-A-Way is the best, nothing harder then some of the lakes in Florida and it won't hurt anything you might spill it on, Maratic Acid is ACIDDDDDDD!!!

When the water gets warm, we get a stain the hull that is very difficult to remove. Have tried many different cleaners. Found FSR by Davis marine - this stuff works great. Put on a thin layer, wait a few minutes, rub / wash it off. After it is clean, I wax the area, not sure if that helps http://www.boatersworld.com/product/176230027msk.htm
