Your phone connects to the HEADUNIT via Bluetooth, USB or AUX cable. Even if you go through the LINC to pair your phone with the boat, your phone is NOT paired with the LINC. It's paired to the headunit. The LINC simply acts as a remote for the headunit.
If everything is paired up and connected, pressing the volume button on the Pebble sends that command to the LINC which then forwards it on to the headunit. It's no different than pressing the button on the LINC itself.
