I have a 2008 Super Air Nautique with a zr6 390hp engine. New to me these last three years. Had an overheating episode and discovered the belt had blown, so I replaced it with the recommended belt by Nautiqueparts.com. Twice now when I take the boat out and load it down for surfing, the belt will slip off and the engine will overheat. Royal pain in the butt to empty the extra ballast in the rear compartment, then the engine divider to thread the belt back on, but have done that on two trips now (including today), and have been able to limp back to the dock. Thought the first time I had not put the belt on correctly, but now I think perhaps it is another issue - likely related to the tension. When I put it on it does not feel as tight as I think it should, and I think that is why it slips off when loaded down.
On this particular engine the tensioner is preset and just moves enough to slip the belt on when you apply torque with a socket wrench, so I don't think I can adjust the tension at that spot. I have checked all of the pulleys and they rotate freely when unloaded (and I'm not hearing or seeing any wobble in them when it runs), so I don't think I have a bearing or pulley issue. I am suspicious that they are sending me the wrong belt since the manufacture changed the engine right around 2008 and my boat has and engine that was manufactured in 2007, but customer service rep assures me that the earlier belt is used on 2007 and earlier year boat models.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any other ideas on why my belt is slipping? Is there a way to increase the tension in the pulley? Thank you in advance.
