Any suggestions on a prop for a 99 SNOB, 290 Carbed? Racked my 4 blade yesterday morning. Never saw anything in the water. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Did you notice any change in the wake? Harder, softer, larger smaller ect? Just curious, I couldnt tell much difference between the acme 422 and my old oj 4 blade.

I changed from the original OJ to the Acme 422 last summer. In my overall opinion the Acme is a better prop. Not just because of comparing one old type with one new type. The hole shot is better with the Acme and is silky smooth. The only worry is that if it gets dinked there are few chances to have this refurbed due to it being cnc machined.
Anyway, one season on, still impressed.
The perfectpass baselines will need recalibrating. Mine were about 80-90 rpm out. Can't remember if this was faster or slower though.
Also, I noticed that steering the turns at each end of the slalom course felt different with the Acme (RH turns harder with Acme). This simply required an adjustment to the tunable rudder. I can only assume this was due to the different cup profiles of the prop blades.
Have not noticed any diff in the wake(I figure if I get accross it must be OK). Much smoother at idle, seems to be a better holeshot and actually dropped my RPM at 32 by about 150-200
I just made the change myself, and I'm pretty disappointed. The hole shot is more linear, but I feel that the OJ Legend 4 blade was much more abrupt out of the hole. With the legend, it felt like the boat reared up and took off when you nailed it- this is much more of a straight line, which "feels" weaker. The 422 seems to throw a higher rooster by a few inches. Where I saw no rooster before, I see a small one now. The prop is smoother at speed- as in less vibration for sure. Less cavitation out of the hole and around tight turns as well. "Weaker" top end- I can go a MPH or so faster (around 46MPH) but with a LL barefooter I'm getting 43 and change. The OJ would hold 44-45 mph with someone long line. I guess the prop is smoother, but it makes the boat feel weaker. 2000 SN GT40.

Joel, Im sorry you're disappointed in the Acme, especially after I talked it up so much! I have to say that I am very surprised. This weekend I got the opportunity to pull some barefooters behind my boat as well as my dad's old boat. My dad's '92 has an OJ 4-blade on it now, and has the GT40 heads. My boat still only has the upgraded ignition and Acme 470 3-blade, so Im down a good 40 hp. The '92 runs strong, as it pulled a 210+ lb barefooter almost 45MPH. My boat pulled me (~190 lbs) 41-42MPH, so you can see the difference in power. However, when I jumped in my boat after driving the '92, I couldnt believe the difference in acceleration and responsiveness throughout the RPM range. It was really incredible how much better my boat felt. Also, I only get 43MPH out of my boat when its unloaded, so I didnt lose much speed with a barefooter. I just cant say enough good things about my experience with this prop!
We had a good experience going from the OJ to the 422 on the '92 as well- so I know thats a good prop too. Maybe the 470 is better though- I havent had a chance to run the 422 and 470 on the same boat to make a good comparison. Is it too late to exchange your prop?
Tim, that's because the 90 has more soul! It's more traveled and more mature than the old 92 so she runs smoother! The 92 has never seen Powell or Mead- it's sheltered! Seriously though, It seems like the Legend has some slip to the prop, so it's like brake torquing a car. You'd gun it, and the boat would GO, even cavitating as it clawed forward. The 422 feels like it takes the engine more effort to turn it. Could just be me.

Dont knock the '92, we put a ton of great hrs on that boat over the 10 years we had it! Ill post a pic of both boats at the dock from this weekend- if it werent for the bimini, you couldnt tell them apart. I would love for you to see the '90 when I finish this round of work on it- it should do 50 and look good doing it.
Seriously, the prop is amazing though. It can keep up with my dad's 196 (330 Ex) up to 35MPH or so... with 90 HP less!
