    Navigation chip loose again

For the second time now, my nav has stopped working. When I turn it on, it says something like, "see dealer to install navigation." The first time this happened, my dealer fixed it by plugging it back in. Problem is, no one at the dealer knows where it plugs in now. The mechanic that fixed it last time doesn't work there any more. I really don't want to have to drag it back to the dealer again if I can just plug it back in myself. Anyone know where it is on a 2015 230?

In my 2012 230 it was in the back of the screen. You removed the four screws holding the screen/bezel in. Pull the assembly out carefully and look on the back. Small door. 10 minute job.

Thanks! I was able to get the dash top off and look behind the screen. All I see are two wiring harnesses going into the back of it and that's it. Maybe it's sandwiched in between the back and front somehow?

Wait... Small door? Like with screws? Did the whole assembly come out with the harness attached? I may be able to see if I can access it from the top, once I pull the dash top off again and avoid having to remove the bezel. It would suck to scratch that bezel while prying it off.

The whole assembly comes out. The bezel comes off and then you gently pull the screen out with the harness attached. There is a small plastic door (thinking it had a Philips head screw holding it), on the back of the Linc unit. Just tilt it forward to access. I did not need to unplug anything but just be gentle.

Of course that assumes your assembly was similar to mine. I tried to go from underneath but that was way too much effort and I couldn't reach anything very well.

While you're in there, check the screws and nuts on the bus bars. Several of mine were loose. Just snug them up.

Please report back, and if possible share a photo or 2. Apparently I didn't pay for the maps option... And they now want a few hundred dollars to install it... I figure it probably is something I should be able to handle myself. Good luck and thanks

Will do. I hope to be back to my slip either today or tomorrow. Pretty sure the dealer has to enable it for you in the dealer settings.

Not sure, if I remember right, I have the maps activated in my linc2- just without any detail. My understanding is he wants to charge $100 for a memory card and $200 to install it.

It takes a whole ten minutes to install it. Couldn't wait any longer. Had to play hooky from work and figure it out. I first started by popping the bezel off carefully. No screws were revealed..... okay... pop the dash top and had another peek. First, the screws that hold the whole link screen unit are screwed in from behind the dash. Not the front. I found two Allen screws holding the access cover to the chip. Just an SD card. It was right where it should be in position. Strange. Why won't it work? I pressed on it and it popped up like an SD card does. I re-inserted it. Presto. My nav works again. Sure hope this doesn't become a regular issue. I will say this: I formed a new resolve to carry some small tools on the boat at all times. Some pics of the back of the link screen with the chip cover on and off.

Quite a bit of difference between the 2012's and 2015's. I couldn't even imagine trying to take the top off the dash on the 2012! I just had the four screws around the bezel. Glad you figured it out.

ID:	535268 Yeah must be. Here, you can see what I saw when I took the bezel off. Looks like there were provisions for screwing it to the front if they wanted to.
