    Engine cover warped

The engine cover on my 2014 210 is warped. The cover closes crooked and that makes the port rear locker rattle. I gave pics to my dealer and they said the claim was denied by Nautique. I remember seeing a thread about others who had this problem fixed under warranty. You can clearly see that the part on the port side is above the top of the hull and the stbd part is below the hull. Thoughts?

Are they the original gas shocks? If not maybe the replacement shock(s) are overpowered, this happened on my SV211 center storage locker where the previous owner replaced the shocks with higher lb rating. Had a significantly bowed out center locker panel after a few warm days in the sun.

It's not the locker panels its the engine cover. When closed it is not straight.

Yeah, I have seen this problem posted a few times over the years. And they all say Nautique did not cover. One of them said Nautique blamed the owner for letting the engine get too hot. You probably gotta figure out what is rattling and find a solution. I honestly doubt that Nautique has a fix. They are probably well aware of the problem, and have no intention of covering it.

Put a 4-foot level on the engine cover and see if it's really warped, or if the hinges need some adjusting on the aft end. Or as someone else said above, it could be the gas spring is pushing upwards on it.

If its just a rattle, check and adjust the locker catch pins up or down to make the close snug. I had a rattle when we first bought our 230, tightened catch pin on one side down 1-2 turns, bingo-bango everything is tight and no rattles.....just a thought

I know how to adjust the latch. The problem is the engine cover there it is adjusted, is not even with the other part of fiberglass.

Bummer. I was told by my dealer to be careful and not leave them out in the hot sun, even for a very short period of time as they're prone to warp.

On that same note there's a big warning sticker on my Ronix surfboard that said to not leave it in the direct sun....and I still left it on the bimini top for a couple of hours in the sun...now that's the end of that new board.... Duh! Still...are you kidding me...can't we make something that can hold up to a couple of hours of sun exposure.

Yeah, your boat is not in the "hot sun" when you use it. I love when a company designs something for crap, and then rather than owning up to it...puts a big warning on it, like that.

Really? A boat is not supposed to be in the sun?

Wait - are you talking about the actual engine cover? hatch? or the side panels?

Ok gang, here's how I've seen this happen before. For whatever reason, Nautique and a lot of other boat manufacturers like to make these covers black. I have no idea why. Anyway, black cover out in the sun in July/August and the temp under these covers can get well above 140 degrees. That's just too hot. I've seen hatch covers warp from this kind of heat.

It's not about "the boat being in the sun." It's about it being in the sun trapped under a black cover in July.
