    Speedo

2006 196SE. This is the 4th summer with the boat. The paddle wheeler driven speedo quit the first summer. I was told to replace the gauge because they fail. It worked the rest of the season. Last fall it quit again. Put in another new gauge, but still won't work. Dealer told me to check that nav lights work, if so there is power to the gauge. So there is power(I guess). The wire coming from the paddle wheel fitting in the hull seems to be one piece and goes straight to the gauge. The paddle wheel spins freely. Do those units go bad, do they come apart at the o-rings?

Yes they do go bad. Follow the wire back to the controller, Put a voltmeter on the wires. You may have to play with it to figure out which two. Have someone slowly rotate the paddle wheel 90 degrees. You should see the voltage on one wire go to 12 volts. If it is at 9 or lower that is the problem. Ps system must be powered up and on. If you still have trouble call Mark at Perfect Pass they are great and helping troubleshoot systems. Good luck

If it's the Perfect Pass digital gauge - yes they go bad, mine did as well. The 2006 gauges are known to have moisture problems that make the display impossible to read.

        Swap in a new one...

This is the Faria gauge. The paddle wheel goes directly to it. No Perfect Pass involved.
