Replacing the keyless pad on a 2000 SN 196

My key pad seems to be going bad and I ordered another one.My questions: 1. How do you remove it ( difficult or straight forward). 2. Re Programing the new one, do you have to reprogram a new one or is there a default factory code that you can use ,mine is 1/1 then start and I think that may be the factory default code. Thanks in advance for any info on this stuff. We've got a lot more skiing to do so I want to make sure I install it right. Thanks Again

What was going wrong with it? I would think the gateway box stores the code not the pad but give a dealer a call to confirm and get the factory code.
