    2008 230 Overheating

This weekend I was out on the boat for a few hours and the engine was running fine. When I went to start it up, the engine seemed extremely loud and then it quickly overheated. I know the raw water pump isn't broken because there was a lot of water in the bilge. I'm thinking a pipe has popped off or maybe the heat exchanger has a crack in it? If something had happened to the exhaust, that would explain the loud sound but would that affect temperatures? It seems to me that the engine would not overheat simply from an exhaust issue because the water and coolant would still be flowing through the engine. I'm going to start it and looks for leaks soon but any tips beforehand would be appreciated.

If water flow is disrupted by leak pump will suck air and create overheat condition.

After looking at the engine, the hose coming from the raw water pump blew off which lead to overheating. Also, a big hole opened up in the tube that the exhaust runs through. How should I go about replacing that hose?

Nautique Parts for replacement parts. Lots of tube items associated with exhaust system. Please post specific photos.

Do you think aluminum heat tape would work for the weekend don't want to miss Labor Day

They make some sort of "as seen on tv " sealant tape. Flex tape I believe is the name, I know several guys have used it to fix cracks on their ballast tanks with great success . Probably works perfect in this scenario too.

My bigger concern would would be what they **** caused that.

You overheated and damaged your exhaust hose when you no longer had water running through the exhaust manifolds. Hopefully you did not run it long and did not damage anything else. Likely the inside of the exhaust hose is blistered in other places and could fail while underway.

Not sure if the previously mentioned tape is heat resistant. Great temporary fix if it is.
