Over heat issue on 95 Super Sport?

Hey all, noticed last weekend driving in lake that my boat was running warm (right around 200 on gauge) at speed, when I slowed down the gauge would also cool down. So I thought I'd swap out the impeller (last swap a year ago). When I pulled the impeller it looked great though... so now I'm thinking maybe swap in a new tstat (also last swapped a year ago). Then as I'm contemplating this I looked at temp gauge (boat off, sitting in driveway) and the needle is pointing 200+, could this be a gauge or sensor issue and the boat is actually running fine?

    thanks, Fred

Try tightening the water filter housing. If it loses seal it will not circulate properly. The clear plastic cup in engine compartment

hmmm...I decided to turn key to on position to see what happens and it looks like it works ok as it almost pegs all the way over, turned off and it moves up...might have to test the sender...

Impeller replaced, cleaned out water filter, it did have debris in it, will check pickup under boat to make sure it's clear as well...
