Ignition issue

99 Super Air, 175 hours, 502

Having a small problem the last couple times I started my boat. The ignition has delayed half a second to a second before the connection is made and it fires up. Everything else seems to be normal. Is this just a bad ignition switch ? ?

Also, noticing a gas odor occasionally under the cockpit. The fill cap is right in front of drivers side windshield. Have looked for leaks, cannot see anything, bilge doesn't smell.... Just overflow vent fumes ?

Sounds like the starter relay to me. On GM engines (like the Python), I believe the relay is built into the starter, and the entire thing will have to be replaced. I had to replace the one on my Excalibur for the same reason.

The delay may be a sign of the computer doing a self check and then starting. I odn't see that as a problem The Gas fumes sacre me though. I would check all lines and hoses to and from the tank. Also check the low pressure pump and FCS Have you replaced the fuel filter recently The cannister may not be sealed totally. Good Luck

Is there a way to check the starter relay? The problem is intermittent, so not a huge deal but would hate to have the weekend wrecked when it goes for good.

s far as the fuel odor goes, I have not changed the filter. The smell is occasionally under the cockpit, which is where the fill line goes through. It is intermittent as well. I guess I could lift the floorboards up and loo/smell under there. There is no more than a normal smell under the engine cover. What is the FCS ?

On mine, it just kept taking longer and longer to begin starting. I'd go ahead and take care of it now, so you don't end up getting stuck.

I believe Rick meant to reference the FCC (Fuel Control Cell).
